Turf Management

New Grass for Old

Renovation and seeding of worn Turf areas

Rapid re-establishment of sports areas particularly those turf pitches used for winter games such as Australian Rules football, soccer and hockey, is becoming more critical with the ever decreasing period between the end of one season and the beginning of the next.

Modern methods of renovation and re-seeding of such grounds can offer saving in labor, time and materials, as well as promoting fast re-establishment of hard wearing, well structured root systems.

BWD Turf Management now has in operation a machine specially designed for these requirements. The ‘Oval renovator”, a Sisis built ‘Contravator Lospred' is available complete with operator and tractor on an hourly hire basis plus the cost of seed and fertilizer or by contract rates per hectare.

It is known that, even on areas which appear to completely devoid of grass, very often roots still live beneath the surface and will produce some growth, albeit sparse and tufty, without any treatment whatsoever. One of the benefits of re-seeding by the Contravator Lospred principle is that existing growth is encouraged, rather than destroyed as by other implements which totally disrupt the surface.

The contra rotating reel cuts grooves to receive seed and only minimally disturbs existing grasses which actually protect the young emerging seedlings during early growth. The nominal play bearing surface is not lost, in fact if it for some reason essential, one could brush the surface and commence play on it during the same day that re-seeding takes place.

Primary Seeder for new lawns.

The BWD primary seeder has many advantages over traditional seeders that guarantee a successful result in every seeding job.

With features such as a large seed box that sows more hectares and a ground driven metering system, to accurate metering from Bentgrass to Fescue and one pass seeding, BWD can handle the most difficult seeding project with ease.

This tractor mounted seeder is maneuverable for smaller jobs and can be used in close proximity to buildings and fences.

A wide range of seeds can be applied at a maximum applications in one pass.

Advantages

•  Precise seed placement with one pass seeding

•  Ground driven metering system

•  Low seed drop and wind guard protect the falling seed from wind

•  Seed box empties evenly

•  Very maneuverable for difficult jobs.

Over Seeder for existing turf areas.

Slicing through the turf and thatch, metering all varieties and sizes of seed, placement of seed to the surface and seed to soil contract are all critical factors in overseeding.

Germination occurs first in the slits that have been cut through thatch and turf by PTO power blades. Second, where the notched roller pushes seed to the soil and third between the grooves where seed contacts to soil and moisture is present.

The BWD overseeder has curved (banana) blades that slices through thatch to open a slit with minimal turf disturbance, and cast notched packer rings press seeds firmly in the soil removing air pockets.

Advantages

•  Can plant 2 or more varieties at once.

•  Seed cups delicately meter seed sizes from Bentgrass to Fescue.

•  Seed protected from wind by low seed drop and wind guard.

•  Minimal turf disturbance with banana blades.
